SONA: Ghana not broke, is all propaganda-Akufo-Addo assures Ghanaians
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed confidence in Ghana’s economic recovery, asserting that the country’s economy has exceeded initial expectations despite global and domestic challenges.
Delivering his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament on January 3, 2025, the President emphasized that Ghana is not in financial distress, highlighting the economy’s resilience and the success of government policies in stabilizing the nation.
The outgoing President was categorical in saying the country was not broke as being bandied by some propagandists.
President Akufo-Addo attributed the recovery to strategic interventions by his administration, which he said played a critical role in restoring confidence and economic stability.
The President also spotlighted the successful completion of three consecutive reviews under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.
The most recent review, approved on December 2, 2024, resulted in a $360 million disbursement to support Ghana’s ongoing recovery efforts.
Reflecting on the economic setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the challenges but commended the nation's strong recovery trajectory.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to further strengthening the economy and ensuring a prosperous future for all Ghanaians.
The address marked a significant moment as President Akufo-Addo concluded his eight-year tenure, leaving a message of optimism and resilience as the nation prepares for its next chapter.
