Unpaid YEA staff appeal to President Mahama over 10-onth salary arrears
More than 300 staff of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) have appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene in the non-payment of their salaries for the past 10 months.
At a press conference held in Kumasi, the group’s Lead Convener, Osei Yaw Akoto, expressed deep frustration over the prolonged delay, describing it as a situation that has left many workers struggling to meet basic needs.
According to Mr. Akoto, the affected staff were permanently employed in November 2024 after successfully completing all required public service recruitment procedures.
Their appointments, he said, were duly approved by the Public Services Commission and the Ministry of Finance, with official appointment letters issued effective December 1, 2024.
Despite working diligently across various YEA offices nationwide, he lamented that no salary payments have been made since their appointment, causing severe financial distress for many employees and their families.
“We have served the nation faithfully and fulfilled all our responsibilities.
Yet, for ten months, we have not been paid a single Cedi. Many of us are now facing serious financial challenges,” Mr. Akoto stated.
The aggrieved workers are therefore pleading with President Mahama to personally intervene and direct the relevant authorities to release their outstanding salaries without further delay.
They emphasised that the situation is undermining morale among staff and affecting service delivery at various YEA offices across the country.
The Youth Employment Agency plays a critical role in implementing government initiatives aimed at tackling youth unemployment.
The workers expressed hope that the matter would be resolved promptly to allow them to continue their duties effectively.
