V/R: Council of State member urges unified push for key dev't projects

The Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State, Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, has called on the Volta Region House of Chiefs to unite in advocating for the accelerated implementation of major development projects that are critical to the region’s progress.
He made the appeal while addressing the House during its General Meeting held on Friday, July 18, 2025.
Speaking to a gathering that included traditional rulers, the Volta Regional Minister James Gunu, and other dignitaries, Kwamigah-Atokple underscored the importance of aligning the efforts of traditional leadership with governmental structures to ensure that the needs of the region are effectively communicated and addressed.
“The Volta Region House of Chiefs carries a great weight,” he said, “and when we act together with one voice, the concerns of our people are more likely to reach the highest levels and receive the attention they deserve.”
He proposed that the House formally engage the President on three development priorities that he described as vital to the region’s growth and prosperity
This flagship initiatives during Volta Harbour Project, the Ho Aviation Training School, and a comprehensive Agricultural Mechanisation Programme.
He also acknowledged the President’s recent directive communicated through Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs that the $30 million Chinese grant be used to construct an ultra-modern market in Aflao.
He commended the government for the initiative, describing it as a sign of responsiveness to the region’s concerns.
“This is a welcome sign of action,” he noted. “It is an encouraging reminder that when we speak clearly and consistently, results do follow.”
Despite this progress, the Council of State Member emphasized the need for continued advocacy to ensure that other commitments to the region particularly the harbour, aviation school, and agriculture projects are fulfilled. He urged the House to remain focused on achieving the "Economic Autonomy of Our Region."
He called for a forward-looking, united approach in securing a future that reflects the dignity and aspirations of the people of Volta.
He further encouraged the House of Chiefs to explore avenues for financial self sustenance, suggesting the development of viable revenue generating ventures that would lessen their dependence on government funding.
He reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for the Volta Region at the national level, pledging to consistently raise the region’s concerns at the highest levels of governance.
“Let us move forward together. Let us speak with one voice. And let us continue to work towards a Volta Region that thrives economically, culturally, and in unity."
He pledged to support the Volta regional house chiefs with twenty thousand Ghana cedis (Ghc 20.000.00) quarterly to aid in the discharge of their work.
The Council of state Member ,Mr Gabriel Kwamiga Atokple again donated Gh¢ 50.000.00 to the house.
In addition,the chairman of the council of state Doe Adjaho has also supported with Gh¢50.000 whiles the Volta regional minister,the NDC leadership and the MMDCEs jointly contributed Gh¢ 50.000 I'm support of the activities of the house.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the National Democractic Congress NDC Mr Mawutor Agbavitor called for unity and a peace among the chiefs to attract development to the region.
He emphasised the need for peace and unity statijg that, this will bring accelerated development and attract investors to the area.
Assured that, the Leadership of the Mahama's administration will never disappoint the Volta region but will fulfil the promises made to the good people of the Volta region.
