Vice President urges sober reflection amid national mourning

Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has called on Ghanaians to set aside blame and political point-scoring, urging a period of sober reflection in the wake of the recent national tragedy.
Speaking during the ongoing three-day national mourning, the Vice President stressed that this was not the moment for “distasteful bloating over the misfortune for postulation” but rather a time to focus on lessons that could prevent similar mishaps in the future.
“This is not the time for distasteful bloating over the misfortune for postulation… it is a time of sober reflection,” she said.
“This is a time for ensuring that mishaps are avoided going forward.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also questioned the divisive tendencies within society, urging Ghanaians to reconsider whether the “unhealthy barriers we consciously continue to build and maintain” were worth the cost to national unity.
She paid tribute to the eight victims of the tragic military helicopter crash, describing them as colleagues who had perished in the line of duty.
“This is the time to wish our colleagues who have perished in the line of duty peaceful rest,” she stated. “It is the time to renew our pledge to work in ways that truly advance our country, as our colleagues have tried to do.”
The Vice President’s comments come as the nation continues to mourn the loss of two Cabinet ministers and six others in the Ashanti Region tragedy.
