W/R: NAiMOS taskforce storms “Yellow Face” galamsey site at Wassa Abrehyia in dawn operation
The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) Taskforce has carried out a bold dawn raid on a notorious galamsey site known as “Yellow Face” at Wassa Abrehyia in the Western Region.
The surprise operation, conducted on Saturday, November 15, 2025, sent panic through the area as illegal miners abandoned their activities and fled upon sighting the taskforce.
During the raid, NAIMOS operatives set ablaze several makeshift structures and equipment used for illegal mining.
Officials also uncovered widespread use of illicit drugs and dynamites at the site—an indication of the dangerous environment and growing sophistication of galamsey operations in the area.
According to NAiMOS, the operation forms part of a series of “surgical strikes” planned for the coming days and weeks to dismantle illegal mining networks and clamp down on the associated drug menace.
The Secretariat reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining these targeted operations to restore law and order and protect the country’s natural resources from further destruction.
