A/R: 1.3m people vaccinated against COVID-19
More than 1.3 million people have been immunised against COVID-19 in the Ashanti Region.
This was disclosed by the Ashanti Regional Health Director, Dr Emmanuel Tinkorang, at a press conference held in Kumasi on Monday, 6 December 2021.
According to him, the target for the region is 4 million.
So far, 432,763 people have been fully vaccinated while 965,061 have taken one dose of the vaccine.
Dr Tinkorang noted that there are enough vaccines to cater for all.
“We have enough vaccines in the system but the challenge we have is how to get everyone in this country to get vaccinated so we can get the herd immunity that can help us prevent the fourth wave.”
He further noted that the number of cases in the Ashanti Region has reduced, with the region recording 6 active cases currently.
Dr Tinkorang also indicated that an intensive campaign will begin in the region to ensure all groups of persons get vaccinated.
“We’re going to start a very intensive campaign here in the Ashanti Region to make sure that we get as many as more than 500,000 of our population vaccinated by the end of the year that is December,” Dr Tinkorang stated.
