COVID-19 isn’t gone, continue to adhere to safety measures – GHS tells public as it records 31 new cases
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has refuted claims suggesting the end of COVID-19.
With 31 new cases reported as of last week, the GHS emphasised the importance for sustained caution and preventive measures to curb the spread of the virus.
Programme Manager at the Expanded Programme on Immunisation within the GHS, Dr. Kwame Amponsah-Achiano, reiterated the critical need for public vigilance and utilisation of vaccination centres.
He stressed: “COVID is not gone, so we should not think that COVID is a thing of the past.”
Dr. Amponsah-Achiano dispelled misconceptions surrounding the pandemic, clarifying: "We keep hearing that the pandemic was declared over but the pandemic has never been declared over.”
He highlighted the transition from emergency management characterised by lockdowns to ongoing COVID-19 management and vaccination efforts.
Emphasising the evolving approach to COVID-19, he urged continued adherence to preventive measures such as mask-wearing and hand hygiene.
“Those things have changed, and now we are witnessing COVID management and even the COVID vaccination,” he indicated.
Dr. Amponsah-Achiano stressed the necessity of maintaining hand hygiene and mask-wearing in enclosed areas until COVID-19 is officially declared over.
He urged households to prioritise regular hand washing with soap and running water to mitigate transmission risks.
