FDA intensifies crackdown on unapproved products in Ghanaian markets

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has stepped up its market surveillance efforts, leading to the seizure of numerous unapproved products found circulating within the Ghanaian market.
This robust action follows the FDA’s sanctions against more than 100 manufacturing companies across the country since January for promoting unauthorszed products.
During a recent operation, which was conducted in the presence of the media, James Aboakye, the team lead for Market Surveillance, highlighted the critical need for consumer vigilance.
He advised the public to meticulously check product details, including those of food, medicine, and personal care items such as shower gels, to ensure they conform to FDA standards.
“We conducted market surveillance activities, and these are some of the activities we do on a daily basis. Based on the intelligence we have on our schedules, we visit districts in different locations and we conduct the exercise in various facilities, pharmacies, marts, shops, and those selling household goods, provided that they are selling foods regulated by the FDA,” Mr. Aboakye explained.
