KATH: 16 staff sanctioned

The management of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has found 16 of its staff members guilty of various infractions, resulting in a range of sanctions, including dismissals, cautionary measures, and suspensions without pay.
Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, the hospital's Chief Executive Officer, announced these actions during the 2023 mid-year performance review conference in Kumasi.
He underscored the hospital's commitment to maintaining discipline within its ranks while prioritizing patient care and the integrity of its operations.
Prof. Addai-Mensah explained, "One thing that we have not compromised on is discipline in the hospital, and approximately sixteen staff members have faced sanctions for various offenses. Cases of extortion have been identified among the implicated staff, and other offenses have been reported as well. The hospital's quality assurance unit has been strengthened, responsible for setting up committees to investigate such issues and provide recommendations to management. These recommendations are then forwarded to the disciplinary committee, which determines appropriate sanctions for the offenders."
Additionally, Professor Addai-Mensah unveiled plans to renovate the aging Gee Block within the hospital premises. This facility, constructed in 1954, has served for nearly seven decades without substantial refurbishment.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is leading a fundraising campaign aimed at rejuvenating these facilities.
