Mahama slams Akufo-Addo for discriminating against communities based on political affiliation
Every citizen, regardless of their political allegiance, deserves to have their needs addressed – Mahama slams Akufo-Addo for discriminating against communities based on political affiliation
Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer for the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s leadership, accusing him of neglecting communities due to political differences.
Mr. Mahama’s comments came after a tour of 14 constituencies in the Central Region, where he engaged with local leaders and residents to assess the state of development.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Mahama claimed that many communities in the region were being sidelined by the Akufo-Addo administration because they did not support the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He argued that this political bias had severely hindered the development of these areas and had a detrimental effect on the livelihoods of their citizens.
“It pains me to see our cherished communities grappling with the neglect of crucial development projects vital for their growth and well-being,” the NDC flagbearer wrote.
He continued that: “After touring fourteen constituencies in the Central Region, I cannot help but join the chiefs and people in condemning the neglect of our communities for petty partisan political reasons, as President Akufo-Addo himself has stated.”
Mr. Mahama questioned why certain communities were being ignored, emphasising that governance should be inclusive, addressing the needs of all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
He described the actions as unjust and harmful to the democratic values of the country.
“How does a government ignore the needs of the people it governs, seemingly punishing communities for their democratic choices in voting for the NDC and electing its parliamentary candidates?,” the NDC flagbearer asked.
He emphasised that: “This is not just a political issue but a matter of justice and accountability. Every citizen, regardless of their political allegiance, deserves to have their voices heard and their needs addressed.”
The former president stressed the importance of fair and inclusive governance, asserting that every Ghanaian should have equal access to government services, irrespective of their party loyalty.
He promised that under an NDC government, no community would be neglected.
Mr. Mahama noted: “As I have done before when I was president and will lead this country to achieve again, development shall be a right for all, not a privilege for a few..”
He added: “The NDC administration of John Mahama and Naana Jane will ensure the progress of our communities and meet your needs.”
