The Dean of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Richmond Agyabeng Amponsah, has expressed his acceptance of President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to revoke the appointments of all MMDCEs across the country.

Mr. Amponsah admitted that the announcement came as a surprise but was not entirely unexpected, given the political transition following the December 7 elections.

“We were expecting this outcome.

It is not surprising. Whether it came earlier or later, the result would have been the same.

After Dr. Bawumia conceded defeat, we mentally prepared ourselves, but the timing was a bit sudden,” he remarked.

President Mahama, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, issued the directive to terminate the appointments of all Chief Executives of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

The decision was communicated through a letter signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, and addressed to the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development.

Mr Amponsah spoke in an interview on Adom FM on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
