The Office of the First Lady of Ghana has called on individuals seeking to build families through adoption to follow lawful and accredited processes, following the recovery of a newborn who was stolen from the Mamprobi Polyclinic.

In a statement, the Office expressed relief that the baby was safely rescued and reunited with the biological mother and family, describing the outcome as a testament to swift action by the Ghana Police Service.

First Lady Lodina Mahama commended the police for their professionalism in apprehending the suspect and ensuring the child’s safe return.

However, the Office cautioned that emotional distress or challenges with conception must never lead to criminal actions.

“While we empathise deeply with women and families facing challenges with conception, desperation must never be allowed to lead to such unconscionable acts,” the statement said.

Using the incident as a broader lesson, the Office stressed that adoption remains a legal and humane option for those wishing to expand their families, but only when pursued through accredited adoption agencies and in accordance with Ghana’s legal framework.

It further urged prospective parents to avoid shortcuts that could endanger children and expose them to legal consequences.

The Office also appealed to hospitals and maternity homes to strengthen security around newborns and mothers, calling for tighter access controls and stricter monitoring within wards.
