President Mahama pays six-month 'alawa' of nursing trainees
The Ministry of Health has announced the disbursement of GHS 462 million to cover six months of training allowances for 120,000 nursing trainees across the country, fulfilling a key campaign promise made by President John Dramani Mahama.
According to the Ministry, the allowance payments, which began on Thursday and will continue through next Friday, are part of a broader government initiative aimed at providing financial relief and support to students in Nursing Training Colleges.
“This development marks a significant milestone in enhancing the welfare of nursing trainees and boosting the morale of future health professionals,” the Ministry stated in a press release.
It added that the move is aligned with ongoing efforts to strengthen the health sector, particularly by ensuring that critical human resources receive the support necessary during their training.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to President Mahama for honouring his pledge to nursing students and also acknowledged the efforts of stakeholders involved in facilitating the timely release and distribution of the funds.
Reaffirming its commitment to quality healthcare education, the Ministry pledged to continue collaborating with nursing institutions to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of training programmes across the country.
