#2024Polls: Dome-Kwabenya turns green as Elikplim Akurugu secures historic win

The Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, a long-standing New Patriotic Party (NPP) stronghold since its creation, has turned green as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured a groundbreaking victory in the December 7 general elections.
The Electoral Commission's Returning officer for the Constituency, declared the NDC winner of the Dome-Kwabenya seat on Sunday, 8 December 2024.
Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, unseated first-time NPP contender Ambassador Mike Oquaye Jnr in a historic triumph.
This marks the first time the NPP will not represent Dome-Kwabenya in Parliament.
Ms Akurugu’s win is particularly notable as it comes after two previous unsuccessful attempts against outgoing MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, who has held the seat since 2012. Her persistence has finally paid off, and she is now poised to represent the constituency in Parliament from January 2025.
