The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate, Awurabena Aubynn, has been declared the winner of the 2024 parliamentary election for the Ablekuma North Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

The Electoral Commission (EC) announced the result on Tuesday, December 10, at its Greater Accra Regional Office following hours of tension and disputes over missing pink sheets.

Prior to the declaration, hundreds of NDC supporters gathered outside the EC office, demanding the confirmation of Awurabena Aubynn as the constituency's new Member of Parliament.

The declaration process, initially scheduled for 10:00 am, was delayed as tensions escalated after results from 219 out of 281 polling stations had been collated.

At the collation centre, a heated confrontation arose between representatives of the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), with both sides accusing each other of attempting to manipulate the electoral process.

The declaration has raised questions, as the EC did not release any official figures to accompany the announcement, and reports of missing pink sheets have cast doubt on the transparency of the process.

Despite the controversy, Awurabena Aubynn's victory adds to the NDC’s gains in the Greater Accra Region as the party seeks to consolidate its influence in Parliament.

However, the circumstances surrounding the declaration are likely to prompt further scrutiny and potential challenges from opposing factions.
