#2024Polls: NDC was fully prepared to thwart any cyber-attack from NPP – Omane Boamah

The Director of Elections and Information Technology (IT) for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has revealed that the party was fully equipped to counter any cyber-attack attempts on its election monitoring and collation system.
Speaking on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Dr. Omane Boamah emphasized the party's readiness to respond decisively if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had tried to compromise their system.
“We entered this election fully prepared. During the collation process, we sent a clear message to the NPP that any cyber-attack attempt would be met with a ruthless response.
The slightest hint of a breach, and we would have responded appropriately and disproportionately,” he declared.
Dr. Omane Boamah underscored that the NDC was determined not to approach the polls passively, vowing to protect the integrity of the election.
“We were not going to enter this election with our hands tied behind our backs, watching the NPP cheat us, only to come back and cry later,” he stated.
The NDC’s meticulous preparations, according to Dr. Omane Boamah, ensured that both parties were able to collate their results independently without interference.
This effort contributed to the NDC’s decisive victory in both the presidential and parliamentary elections held on Saturday.
Reflecting on the party's losses in the 2020 elections, Dr. Omane Boamah noted significant improvements this year. “Unlike 2020, when we alleged that the NPP hacked our system and manipulated the results, this time we invested heavily in all aspects of the electoral process, particularly technology and human resources.”
The party reportedly trained 153,000 individuals to safeguard the voting process, ensuring the integrity of ballot papers and pink sheets.
Additionally, laptop computers were distributed to polling station agents as part of their IT strategy, enhancing the party’s ability to monitor and report results in real-time.
Dr. Omane Boamah attributed the NDC’s success to these strategic investments, which not only fortified their election system but also deterred any potential attacks by the outgoing NPP government.
