A shooting incident at Nyankpala in the Northern Region has left one person dead and another injured, marring the 2024 general elections.
The violence reportedly erupted following allegations of vote-buying, sparking a heated confrontation between members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to sources, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, Dr Osman Tahiru Damba, confronted Alhaji Rashid Salifu, the NPP Northern Regional Organiser, accusing him of distributing money to influence voters. The altercation allegedly escalated, leading to the tragic incident.
In response, the Ghana Police Service issued a statement confirming the arrest of four individuals in connection with the shooting. The suspects have been identified as Majid Issah, Fodi Issiage Kamara, Yakubu Simalia, and Alhaji Bashiru Mohamed.
The Police assured the public of thorough investigations to bring those responsible to justice and called for calm as voting continues across the nation.
The incident has cast a shadow over the electoral process in the area, highlighting the need for vigilance and peaceful conduct during this critical period.
