The National Chairman of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called on the people of the Ashanti Region to rethink their voting habits and support a political party focused on development.

Speaking during his campaign tour in the region, the NDC National Chairman visited Amoakokrom and Ahwerewa in the Ahafo Ano South East Constituency, where he highlighted the need for a shift away from the region's long-standing tradition of voting for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He pointed out that many residents of the Ashanti Region continue to support the NPP out of tradition, saying they often vote for the party simply because they were born into it.

However, he argued that this voting trend has contributed to a lack of development in the region, as the NPP feels assured of votes regardless of their commitment to development.

One key example he cited was the Amoakokrom electrification project, which was initiated by the NDC but abandoned after the NPP came to power in 2021, despite having governed for nearly eight years before that.

“The NPP does not prioritise the development of this region,” the NDC National Chairman said, urging the people to break free from the mindset of voting out of tradition and to instead choose a party that is committed to real development.

He also cautioned voters not to be swayed by short-term incentives, such as money or gifts, which he claimed the NPP often uses to influence voter behavior, including weedicides, maggi cubes, and cutlasses.

“Vote based on what a party can do for you, not what they give you in exchange for your vote,” the NDC National Chairman urged.
