‘I’m unwavering in my commitment to free, fair, transparent elections – Akufo-Addo
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s democracy, pledging to uphold peace and security as the December 7 general elections approach.
Delivering his final National Best Farmer Awards address, President Akufo-Addo underscored his administration’s zero-tolerance stance toward any efforts to destabilise the democratic process.
He reflected on Ghana’s deeply rooted democratic values, emphasising the critical importance of a free and fair electoral process.
In his address, the president highlighted the sacrifices and hard work of previous leaders, civil society, and citizens in building a democratic nation that serves as a model across Africa and beyond.
He stressed that protecting this legacy is now the collective duty of all Ghanaians, urging unity and peace as the nation heads toward the polls.
“As we approach the 2024 general elections, let me make one thing absolutely clear again. I am unwavering in my commitment to free, fair, and transparent elections. Ghana’s democracy is a treasure we have all fought to build and a legacy that must be protected,” he declared.
President Akufo-Addo called on citizens, political leaders, and supporters alike to remain vigilant in defending Ghana’s democratic principles, stating that any attempts to undermine the peace or the electoral process would be met with firm legal action.
“The sovereign will of the Ghanaian people will be upheld, and any attempts to disrupt the peace or undermine the democratic process will be met with the full weight of the law,” he stated.
President Akufo-Addo added: “Let there be no doubt that our democracy will remain strong and the people’s choice will prevail.”
