Kufour’s endorsement of Bawumia, a warning signal to NDC – Yaw Boateng Gyan

The former National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Yaw Boateng Gyan, has cautioned the national leadership of the NDC not to overlook former President John Agyekum Kufuor's endorsement of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as mere political support.
He argues that the former President's backing of Dr. Bawumia should serve as a serious warning to the NDC ahead of the December 7 elections.
Mr. Boateng Gyan asserted that Kufuor’s endorsement highlights the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) determination to remain in power, despite what he describes as their role in deteriorating Ghana’s economic stability.
He suggested that figures like former President Kufuor appear unwilling to acknowledge the challenges currently facing the country and are instead presenting a picture of stability under the NPP.
"The endorsement is a signal that the NPP may not easily concede," Mr. Boateng Gyan noted, urging the NDC to intensify its efforts to achieve a decisive victory in the upcoming elections.
He emphasized that the NDC must be prepared to unseat the NPP to address the challenges that, in his view, have been neglected or exacerbated under their leadership.
Speaking on the Ghana Yensom Morning Show co-hosted by Kaayire Kwesi Appea-Apreku and Odehyeeba Kofi Essuman on Accra 100.5 FM on Tuesday, November 19, Mr. Boateng Gyan remarked that while Kufuor's endorsement may seem like routine party support, it has significant implications for the political landscape heading into the elections.
He added that if former NDC figures such as the late Prof. John Evans Atta Mills or former Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur were alive, they would similarly endorse their party’s candidate.
He urged the NDC leadership to reflect on the impact of Kufuor’s endorsement, stressing that the party must approach the elections with a proactive strategy to overcome the NPP.
