Member of Parliament for Afadjato South Constituency in the Volta Region, Frank Afriyie, has taken a swipe at former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over his recent call for investigations into the violent disturbances in the Ablekuma North re-run of polls.

According to Mr Afriyie, Bawumia’s stance smacks of hypocrisy, given his silence and inaction during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence while in government.

He questioned the former Vice President’s moral authority to now champion justice in cases of political violence.

Mr Afriyie further accused the Bawumia-led administration of selectively implementing the recommendations of the Emile Short Commission, which investigated the Ayawaso incident.

He claimed that key findings—especially those implicating individuals aligned with the New Patriotic Party—were conveniently ignored.

“The fight against political violence must be consistent, not opportunistic,” the MP stressed.

“We cannot pick and choose when to speak out based on political convenience.”

He emphasised the need for all leaders to uphold the rule of law and promote a culture of decency in politics, adding that calls for justice must be backed by credible actions, not mere words.
