Arrest Minority Chief Whip for inciting violence: GFL to police

Mr Abraham Koomson, Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), has called for the immediate arrest of Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, following a viral video in which Annoh-Dompreh allegedly incited supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) against members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ablekuma North Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.
In the video, Annoh-Dompreh was heard urging NPP members to confront NDC supporters, stating: "If you're an NPP member and you find an NDC supporter fighting a fellow NPP member, help the NPP member to beat up the NDC supporter."
This statement has sparked significant controversy and concern over potential political violence.
Koomson emphasized the need for law enforcement agencies, including the National Investigation Bureau (NIB), the Ghana Police Service, and National Security, to take swift action against Annoh-Dompreh to prevent further unrest.
"I am calling on the law enforcement agencies to hold Annoh-Dompreh accountable.
I urge the National Investigation Bureau, the Ghana Police Service, and National Security to step in and question him.
What did he mean by saying that NPP supporters should attack NDC supporters?
How can an Honourable Member of Parliament make such a reckless statement?" Koomson asserted.
He further warned that failure to address such incitement could set a dangerous precedent, leading to widespread lawlessness and threatening the country’s stability.
The controversy arises amid heightened tensions in the Ablekuma North Constituency, where both NPP and NDC Parliamentary Candidates have declared themselves winners of the 2024 parliamentary elections.
Annoh-Dompreh has also issued a one-week ultimatum to the Electoral Commission to declare the NPP candidate as the winner of the Ablekuma North election, further intensifying the situation.
Mr Koomson made this demand while speaking on Sakumono-based Ahotor FM.
