President John Dramani Mahama has announced that all government appointees who failed to declare their assets by the March 31 deadline will forfeit three months' salary as a penalty.

The forfeited salaries, he said, will be donated to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as Mahama Cares.

The President made this announcement during the launch of the Code of Conduct for Public Officials in Accra on Monday.

The move is part of a broader effort to strengthen accountability and ethical governance within the public sector.

“Appointees who missed the deadline will not go unpunished,” President Mahama stated.

“Their salaries for the next three months will be redirected to support the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, which is dedicated to the treatment of chronic illnesses like kidney failure, cancer, and heart disease.”

The directive affects all officials appointed before the March 31 deadline who failed to comply with the legal requirement to declare their assets.

President Mahama emphasised that asset declaration is a vital tool in the fight against corruption and a test of integrity for public servants.

He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that public office is not used for personal gain but for the collective good of all Ghanaians.

This latest sanction follows a separate warning that appointees who still fail to comply by Wednesday, May 7, will be dismissed from office.
