Cold cases not abandoned- Attorney General to Ghanaians
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has clarified that a long-running case under investigation has not been abandoned, despite challenges caused by the passage of time and earlier investigative shortcomings.
Speaking in an interview, Dr. Ayine explained that the case has gone cold, making it increasingly difficult to retrieve evidence. He noted that returning to such cases presents serious obstacles, particularly when the initial investigations were not conducted thoroughly.
“When a case has gone cold, it becomes very difficult to go back and retrieve evidence,” he said, adding that the situation is compounded by weaknesses in how the investigations were originally handled.
However, the Attorney-General stressed that the state has not given up on the matter.
According to him, efforts are still underway to determine whether sufficient evidence can be gathered to sustain the case and ensure accountability.
“We have not abandoned it,” Dr. Ayine emphasised.
“We are still trying to see if we can gather enough evidence to be able to hold on.”
His comments highlight the broader challenges faced by prosecutors in reviving old cases, while also signalling the government’s continued commitment to pursuing justice where possible, despite legal and practical difficulties.
