Committee probing Chief Justice's removal to begin public hearings on Thursday

The five-member committee set up by President John Dramani Mahama to investigate three petitions filed against the Chief Justice is set to commence its hearings on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
The committee, chaired by Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, was constituted in accordance with Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution.
This follows the President’s determination of a prima facie case against the Chief Justice after receiving the petitions.
In a statement issued by the Minister of Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, it was announced that the committee will convene three times a week.
The committee’s mandate is to thoroughly examine the petitions and present its findings and recommendations to the President upon completion of its work.
The petitions, details of which remain undisclosed to the public, have drawn national attention due to their implications for judicial accountability and transparency at the highest level.
The President’s decision to initiate the inquiry has been widely regarded as a commitment to upholding the rule of law and due process, even at the apex of the Judiciary.
