The Executive Chairman of the Center for Africa Development and Progress (CADeP), Johanes Koku Nyagblordzro, has called for a violent free 2024 election, underlining the need to safeguard “our ongoing democracy”.

“The presence of vigilante groups and election-related violence continue to affect our election process,” he observed.

Nyagblordzro, thus asserted, Ghana had to “eliminate these threats as they undermine our democracy and can lead to voter apathy and instability”.

He spoke on the theme: ‘Championing peaceful elections: The role of all Ghanaians in ensuring true leadership for democratic stability and advancement in Ghana’.

He highlighted elections were instrumental in “peaceful power transition”. However, he cautioned, unless elections were “free, fair and violent-free,” the true “will of the people” would not be known.

Nyablordzro urged institutions that facilitate democracy to be diligent, “particularly, the judiciary and the police” so as “to uphold the rule of law and maintain peace”.

She asked the media to recognise their “crucial role” in fostering peace, admonishing them to “avoid sensationalism” to “focus on balanced and truthful reporting”.

Concluding, the development, economics and social analyst called on citizens to “contribute to peaceful elections by promoting unity and respect across ethnic, ideological and cultural lines”.

“Let us work together to consolidate Ghana’s democracy and foster a society where politics [truly] serves the people,” he emphasised.
