Dec. 7 polls: Count votes accurately, fill out forms professionally – EC chair tells officials
The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Adukwei Mensa, has called on electoral officials to uphold integrity and professionalism as Ghanaians prepare to vote in the December 7, 2024, general elections.
In her final press briefing before election day, Mrs Mensa reiterated the commission’s impartial mandate, emphasising that its primary objective is to ensure a credible electoral process that reflects the true will of the people.
“Our collective goal is not to make anybody a President or Member of Parliament but to conduct a free and fair election,” she declared firmly.
Mrs Mensa urged election officials to embody the EC’s core values of transparency, fairness, and integrity while discharging their duties.
“Count the votes accurately and fill out the forms professionally. We urge you to do it with integrity and truth and let God guide you,” she advised, highlighting the importance of precision and honesty in the electoral process.
Expressing her confidence in the EC’s team, she noted: “We believe in you and we trust in you to conduct free, fair and transparent elections that will reflect the will of the people.”
She further reminded officials to ensure valid votes are not wrongly rejected, stressing the need to safeguard the integrity of the election and protect every citizen’s right to be heard.
