Dr Ayensu Danquah calls for calm amid NPP's targeted insults
Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Esikado Ketan Constituency in the Western Region, has called for the leadership of both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to intervene following what she describes as targeted insults directed at her ahead of the December elections.
Dr. Ayensu Danquah expressed her concerns after a rally held by the NPP over the weekend in the Esikado Ketan Constituency, which was attended by senior party figures, including Ken Agyapong, a former presidential aspirant, and Kwabena Darko Mensah, the Regional Minister.
During the rally, she claims, these party leaders launched unprovoked verbal attacks against her.
At the launch of the campaign for the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Charles Bissue, on Saturday, September 7, 2024, Mr. Agyapong emphasized the importance of hard work to retain the seat the NPP has held for two decades.
However, Dr. Ayensu Danquah alleged that the NPP leaders went further by threatening her with violence, saying they would "beat the hell out of her" in the December 7, 2024, elections.
Speaking on the Ghana Yensom morning show on Accra 100.5 FM, hosted by Otafrigya Kayire Apea-Apreku on Monday, Dr. Ayensu Danquah suggested that the NPP's actions are motivated by her being a woman.
She asserted that she remains unfazed by the insults, stating that the NPP has held the seat for 20 years without delivering meaningful development for the people of the Constituency.
“The NPP can gang up with insults against me, but the truth of their failure in the Constituency will be told without fear or favoUr,” Dr. Ayensu Danquah declared, calling on the leadership of both parties to ensure a more respectful campaign environment.
