Extradition hurdles may stall case against Russian national accused of filming Ghanaian women — Patrick Boamah
Efforts to bring a Russian national accused of secretly filming Ghanaian women to justice may be hampered by significant legal and diplomatic challenges, the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central in the Greater Accra Region, Patrick Boamah, has disclosed.
According to Mr. Boamah, the absence of a bilateral extradition treaty between Ghana and Russia presents a major obstacle in securing the suspect’s return to face prosecution.
Speaking on the matter, the legislator explained that even if the individual is positively identified and located, the lack of a formal extradition agreement makes the process legally complex and uncertain.
Mr. Boamah further indicated that formal charges have not yet been filed against the accused, compounding the difficulty of pursuing the case.
While some of the alleged victims may wish to initiate legal action, he noted that they are constrained by the current legislative framework.
He pointed out that the specific cybersecurity legislation under which such a complaint would ordinarily be pursued has not yet been laid before Parliament, leaving a legal gap in addressing the matter.
“These constraints collectively render any attempt to bring him to justice almost impossible at this stage,” Mr. Boamah said, underscoring growing frustration over the case.
