Foreign Affairs Minister confirms successful evacuation of Ghanaian embassy staff in Iran
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, has announced that the Government of Ghana has successfully evacuated all Ghanaian embassy staff stationed in Iran, amid escalating regional tensions in the Middle East.
Ablakwa confirmed that Ghanaian diplomats are safe and in high spirits following the evacuation, which was carried out in response to the deteriorating security situation in the region.
He further disclosed that the Ghanaian embassy in Iran has been closed “sine die” (indefinitely) as a precautionary measure to protect personnel and uphold their safety.
The Minister reiterated the government’s primary concern for the safety, welfare and protection of Ghanaian citizens, particularly in light of recent military hostilities involving various countries in the Middle East.
This action comes as part of broader emergency preparedness measures activated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs amid heightened tensions in the region, during which Ghana advised its nationals to avoid non-essential travel and remain vigilant.
The evacuation marks a significant diplomatic response aimed at safeguarding Ghana’s diplomatic staff and reflects the government’s commitment to prioritising the well-being of its citizens abroad during turbulent times
