GA/R: Agortor community regains access to potable water after years of drought
Residents of Agortor in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region can finally heave a sigh of relief after enduring years without access to potable drinking water.
The long-awaited reconnection of their water supply follows a direct intervention by the District Chief Executive (DCE),Mr. Ignatius Godfred Dordoe.
For years, the community depended on sachet water and harvested rainwater to survive after their main water line was disconnected without explanation—plunging hundreds of residents into hardship.
Speaking on the development to Accra 100.5 FM's Rebecca Lartey, Mr.Dordoe said that upon assuming office, he made it a priority to resolve the water crisis by engaging the appropriate authorities to ensure restoration of supply.
“When I came into office, I met with the relevant stakeholders to address the issue.
Thankfully, the problem has been fixed. In addition, some investors have provided poly tanks to serve as backup storage in case of future shortages,” he noted.
The DCE further disclosed that other critical challenges, including the lack of accommodation for teachers and health workers, are also being addressed to improve stability and service delivery in the community.
"We are working to provide decent accommodation for our teachers and nurses so they can stay in the community and contribute effectively,” he added.
The restoration of the water supply marks a significant step toward improving living conditions and development in Agortor.
