Gideon Boako calls for probe into Yamfo shooting, death of health worker

Member of Parliament for Tano North, Dr Gideon Boako, has called on security agencies to immediately investigate the fatal shooting of a young health worker and the subsequent unrest in Yamfo, a community within his constituency.
The incident, which occurred last Friday, involved a violent altercation between local youth and the police, tragically leading to the death of Mr Richard Agyei Antwi.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 8 April, Dr Boako expressed profound sorrow over the death, describing it as a “tragic incident” that had disturbed the peace in the otherwise calm community.
He revealed that the tension that followed led to the vandalism of the Yamfo Police Station, prompting a military deployment from Sunyani to restore order.
“The situation has caused not only the loss of life and property, but threatens the harmony the Yamfo community has enjoyed for years,” he noted.
The MP further disclosed that a second resident had sustained life-threatening injuries after allegedly being shot by a military officer and was currently receiving treatment at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital.
Dr Boako urged residents to remain calm and resist the temptation to engage in any retaliatory acts.
“I urge everyone in these distressing times to remain calm and refrain from actions that may further escalate tensions,” he appealed.
Calling for justice and accountability, Dr Boako tasked the Municipal Security Council and relevant authorities to carry out a full and impartial investigation into the matter.
“I call upon the security agencies... to ensure that justice is duly served,” he stressed.
He also extended his condolences to the bereaved family and wished the injured a swift and full recovery
