Gov't declares three days of national mourning for former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings
The announcement, issued on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu (MP), stated that the period of mourning will run from Friday, October 24, to Sunday, October 26, 2025.
During this period, all national flags are to be flown at half-mast across public buildings, diplomatic missions, and government installations both in Ghana and abroad.
According to the statement, the decision is in honour of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings’ distinguished service to the nation, particularly her lifelong work in women’s empowerment, child welfare, and social development.
“Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings served Ghana with dedication and commitment, and her contributions to national progress will remain an enduring part of our history,” the statement read.
The government also extended its deepest condolences to the family of the late First Lady, her children, and all who mourn her passing, describing her death as “an irreplaceable loss to the nation.”
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was a prominent advocate for women’s rights and founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, which advanced social and economic opportunities for women across Ghana.
Funeral details are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
