Hopeson Adorye demands prosecution of former President Akufo-Addo over National Cathedral saga
Director of Operations for United Party(UP) Hopeson Adorye, has launched a strong call for the prosecution of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, insisting he should be facing the courts over the controversial National Cathedral project.
According to Adorye, the actions and decisions taken under the Akufo-Addo administration regarding the project amount to causing financial loss to the state, and the former President must be held fully accountable.
He argued that prosecuting Akufo-Addo would set an important precedent for President John Dramani Mahama and future leaders, serving as a deterrent against similar governance lapses.
Mr Adorye made this call while speaking on Accra-based CTV's morning show, Oman Ghana Nkosuo, hosted by Yaa Titi.
Adorye lamented what he described as a culture of impunity surrounding former leaders in Ghana, noting that in many other countries, sitting and past presidents are arrested and jailed when found culpable of wrongdoing.
He therefore called for reforms to Ghana’s legal framework to ensure no leader escapes the law after leaving office.
He further asserted that large-scale corruption scandals became rampant under the Akufo-Addo administration, stressing that accountability must be non-negotiable.
