John-Peter Amewu arrested over botched $2 million SkyTrain deal

John-Peter Amewu, the former Minister for Railways and former Member of Parliament for the Hohoe Constituency in the Volta Region, has been arrested by National Security in connection with the failed $2 million SkyTrain project.
The arrest comes amid ongoing investigations into the controversial deal, which was intended to introduce a modern urban rail transport system in Ghana but failed to materialize.
Reports indicate that the government had committed $2 million to the project, which has since been deemed unsuccessful.
Mr Amewu, who played a significant role in overseeing the country’s railway sector, is now facing scrutiny over his involvement in the agreement and the circumstances surrounding the financial commitments made under the deal.
This latest development adds to growing concerns over accountability in government contracts and public infrastructure projects.
National Security officials have yet to release further details on the charges or potential legal proceedings Mr Amewu may face.
The case is expected to spark further debate on transparency and due diligence in Ghana’s infrastructural investments.
More updates will follow as investigations continue.
