The Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has made the voluntary decision to step down from his position in the House.
This decision followed a crucial meeting between the Majority Caucus in Parliament, the national leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and President Akufo-Addo.
During the meeting, held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the Jubilee House, the NPP leadership expressed its desire to see a new individual leading its front in Parliament.
In response to this suggestion, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, the Member of Parliament for the Suame Constituency in the Ashanti Region, opted to voluntarily resign from his role as the Majority Leader.
President Akufo-Addo extended gratitude and praise to Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu for his lengthy and dedicated service in Parliament.
Subsequently, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has been appointed by the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to lead his Election 2024 policy and manifesto team.
With Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu's departure, the position of Majority Leader is expected to be assumed by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the current Deputy Majority Leader and MP for Effutu in the Central Region.
