Agona Swedru Fire Service takes fire safety education to the streets
Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at the Agona Swedru Fire Station, in Agona West Municipality of the Central Region, have embarked on an extensive fire safety education exercise across the Central Business District of Agona Swedru.
The exercise saw the full deployment of officers from the Municipal Commander down to the lowest rank, demonstrating the Service’s collective commitment to public safety.
Fire officers engaged shop owners, office workers, store operators, motorists, and pedestrians, educating them on basic fire prevention measures, correcting common misconceptions, and sharing emergency contact details of the Service.
Addressing the public, the Municipal Commander, DOII Abdul Wasiu Hudu, explained that the initiative was aimed at ensuring the effective dissemination of fire safety messages, particularly as the festive season approaches.
He noted that the yuletide and the dry season often come with heightened fire risks, making public awareness and vigilance critical.
According to him, the safety of residents remains a top priority for the Service during this period.
He urged the public to strictly adhere to fire safety measures, take personal responsibility for their safety, and avoid entering places where their safety cannot be guaranteed.
As part of the outreach, fire safety education was also extended to schools, media houses, places of worship, and other public institutions within the municipality.
