Ofankor domestic violence case: Accra circuit court grants John Odartey Lamptey 100,000 cedis bail
The Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to John Odartey Lamptey, the man accused in the highly publicized Ofankor domestic violence case.
Lamptey was granted bail in the sum of GH₵100,000 with two sureties on Tuesday December 16, 2025. The court ordered that the sureties be justified, pending the continuation of proceedings.
The case, which has drawn significant public attention following reports of an alleged domestic violence incident at Ofankor, remains before the court. Lamptey is facing charges related to the alleged assault and has pleaded not guilty.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service on Novemebr 18,2025 arrested John Odartey Lamptey following in a viral Facebook video seen physically assaulting a woman believed to be his wife at Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality.
The court is expected to reconvene on a later date to continue hearing the matter, while the accused remains on bail subject to the conditions set by the court.
Prosecutors say investigations are ongoing. Meanwhile, members of the public and advocacy groups continue to follow developments closely due to the broader concerns the case has raised about domestic violence.
