Lawyer Ampaw clarifies relocating to Togo was politicking: 'Mahama proved everything is possible'

Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has acknowledged the defeat of his favourite presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In an interview on the national broadcaster, GBC, he said contrary to what he said during the campaign season he was not going to relocate.
He underlined the significance of the reelection of John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as President of Ghana, too.
“NDC has won, and you know during the campaign I was on the side of Bawumia and I did a lot of harm to the NDC and I made a lot of political statements. One was, ‘If Mahama wins I’ll to leave’. I will not go because Ghana is far better than Togo,” he told his host Kafui Dei.
“But it’s part of the political game. It’s trying to say that it’s impossible for Mahama to come [back].”
“As I sit here, I don’t even have a passport. I’ve never travelled [internationally] before. I’ve been in Ghana for the past 57 years of my life,” the founder of the Legal Advocacy Foundation revealed.
“So for me to say that I’ll leave to Togo was political gimmicks. It was me trying to ginger the people that, ‘Let’s make it happen’.”
“But at the end of the day, Mahama proved to me that everything is possible,” he conceded.
Lawyer Ampaw emphasised he does not regret the statements he made against President Mahama since “it was just political talk”.
