Leaders of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Parliament of Ghana, and former President John Agyekum Kufuor have extended their heartfelt condolences to the Rawlings family following the passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

In separate messages, political leaders and statesmen expressed deep sorrow over the news, describing Mrs. Rawlings as a pillar of Ghanaian politics, a trailblazer in women’s empowerment, and a formidable advocate for social justice and national development.

A high-powered delegation from the NDC, led by the party’s leadership as well as leadership in Parliament, visited the Rawlings residence in Accra to commiserate with the bereaved family.

They paid glowing tribute to the late former First Lady for her immense contributions to Ghana’s democracy, her role in the establishment of the 31st December Women’s Movement, and her commitment to the advancement of women's and children’s rights.

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, a longtime political contemporary of the late Mrs. Rawlings and her husband, the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, also extended his condolences to the family.

He described her as a strong-willed leader who served Ghana with distinction and grace.

“Though we stood on different sides politically, I respected her courage, patriotism, and dedication to public service.

Her passing is a loss not just to her family but to Ghana as a whole,” President Kufuor stated.

The Speaker of Parliament, together with Members of both sides of the House, also expressed their sympathy, observing a minute of silence in her honour during proceedings.

The Rawlings family is expected to release official details regarding funeral arrangements in the coming days.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, aged 76, was Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady and one of the most influential women in the country’s political history.

She was known for her leadership in women’s advocacy, her founding of the National Democratic Party (NDP), and her enduring legacy of service to nation and family.
