Local Gov't Minister inaugurates advisory board to strengthen policy direction

The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, has inaugurated an advisory board to provide strategic guidance and strengthen policy direction for the Ministry.
The newly constituted board brings together distinguished personalities from government, academia, and faith communities. Its mandate is to serve as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and shared responsibility, ensuring the Ministry remains focused, responsive, and accountable in the delivery of its mandate.
The board will advise on key areas including decentralisation and local governance reforms, social protection, peaceful coexistence, sanitation, and urban development.
It will also support participatory decision-making and capacity building to promote inclusive governance and national development.
Membership of the board includes:
The Deputy Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs
A distinguished Member of Parliament
The Chief Director of the Ministry
The Director-General of the National Development Planning Commission
The Head of the Local Government Service
A Professor of Medicine
The Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council
Representatives from the Charismatic, Pentecostal, and Islamic faiths, as well as the National House of Chiefs
In his remarks,Mr. Ibrahim underscored the importance of the advisory board in shaping reforms that will deepen decentralisation and improve service delivery at the local level.
He expressed gratitude to faith leaders for their role in providing moral guidance, spiritual leadership, and fostering national unity.
He also commended the collaboration of the National Development Planning Commission, the National Peace Council, and the Local Government Service in supporting the Ministry’s vision.
