Residents of Gbawe Zero Machandi Estates in the Weija Gbawe Municipality are calling on authorities to urgently address a deteriorating drainage system that has already claimed the lives of two children.

The drainage, weakened by constant heavy water flow, has eroded sections of the community and is now threatening both residents and motorists.

Concerned locals say the problem has persisted for over two months despite repeated complaints to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Felix Odartey Lamptey.

According to residents, the running water has started eating into the main road, heightening fears that any heavy rainfall could split the road into two and trigger another tragedy.

“We have reported this issue several times, but nothing has been done.

If urgent steps are not taken, the situation will cause another disaster,” a resident lamented.

The administrator of Keep My Word Cathedral (Lighthouse Chapel), Rev. Selasie Wemegah, also joined the calls, appealing to the Assembly to take immediate action.

“If the authorities fail to act, this problem will create another disaster for our community.

We need help now,” she stressed.

Residents are urging the Weija Gbawe Municipal Assembly and the central government to treat the matter as an emergency and fix the drainage before more lives are lost.
