Madina: Sosu files nomination for 2nd term as MP
The Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency, Francis-Xavier Sosu, has officially filed his nomination to seek re-election for a second term in office.
Accompanied by a large crowd of hundreds of constituents and party faithful, the MP's nomination journey to the District Electoral Commission office on Madina Old Road was marked by enthusiastic displays of solidarity and hope for change.
In a colourful procession, current and former executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) rallied behind the MP from the party office to the EC Office, as onlookers raised their hands in the air, displaying the popular "change" symbol. It was a scene filled with optimism, as supporters chanted and cheered along the route, showing their dedication to seeing the MP continue his work in parliament.
The filing process was overseen by the Madina Municipal Electoral Officer, Madam Lilian Asare, who introduced the MP and his team to the Returning Officer, Mr Solomon Ametsitsi. The Returning Officer expressed his appreciation to Mr Sosu and his team for conducting themselves peacefully and showing respect for the Electoral Commission’s procedures. He wished them well as they proceeded with their campaign.
Following the filing of his nomination, Mr Sosu addressed the gathered constituents and party supporters, urging them to stay focused on the goal of restoring Ghana.
“Ghana will work again, but we need to contribute to the resetting of this country through our votes on December 7,” he said.
He also warned against falling victim to vote-buying, alleging “the NPP has stolen all our money with the intention to buy your votes during the election. When they bring the money, take it, but don’t vote for them.”
The NDC Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Fusseini Faila, added his voice, cautioning the Electoral Commission and security agencies against being influenced by the ruling government.
“Do not allow yourselves to be used for illegal duties,” he warned, stressing the need for a free and fair election process.
Former MP for Madina, Amadu Bukari Sorogho, also showed his unwavering support for Mr Xavier-Sosu. With over 40 years of political experience, Sorogho pledged to lend his expertise to the MP’s campaign, promising to join him in a door-to-door effort to secure votes for the NDC.
With the backing of party executives, seasoned politicians, and an enthusiastic constituency, Francis Xavier-Sosu’s re-election bid is set to be a high-stakes contest as the December 7 elections draw closer.
