Minority Leader criticizes Speaker over MPs' suspensions
Speaking on the matter, Afenyo-Markin criticized the Speaker for what he described as an overreach of authority, which he believes has negatively impacted the rights of opposition MPs.
Despite these concerns, he stated that the minority remains committed to engaging in constructive dialogue, a process he initiated over the weekend.
Additionally, the Minority Leader highlighted what he termed an increasing atmosphere of intimidation allegedly orchestrated by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He claimed that such tactics have led to heightened insecurity among opposition MPs.
Afenyo-Markin also questioned the NDC’s claims of a parliamentary majority, arguing that they have struggled to mobilize more than 100 MPs for sittings.
This, he noted, casts doubt on their assertion of dominance in Parliament.
While addressing internal party matters, Afenyo-Markin reaffirmed the Minority Caucus’s commitment to unity and consensus-building.
He noted that apart from the case involving Armah-Kofi Buah, where a secret ballot was almost considered, the minority has remained largely united in its stance on key issues.
In conclusion, he called on the Majority Leader to restore order among his members to ensure a more structured and disciplined approach to parliamentary proceedings.
