The Minority in Parliament has appealed a Koforidua High Court ruling that found Akwatia Member of Parliament Ernest Yaw Kumi in contempt of court and subsequently issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

Alongside the appeal, the Caucus has requested a stay on the execution of the court’s order while the appeal is pending.

Kumi was convicted of contempt for disregarding an interim injunction that barred him from being sworn in as a legislator.

His failure to appear in court for sentencing led to the issuance of the bench warrant.

Second Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, addressed the media on the matter, providing further details about the legal proceedings.
