NDC constitutes committee to probe alleged vote buying in Ayawaso East primary
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has set up a three-member committee to investigate allegations of inducement and vote buying during its Ayawaso East parliamentary primary held on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
The decision follows earlier concerns raised by the party over what it described as widespread reports of electoral malpractice during the internal contest.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretariat, the committee will be chaired by former Minister of Information, Mr. Kofi Totobi Quakyi.
He will be supported by Bawku Central Member of Parliament, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, and legal practitioner Emefa Fugah.
The committee has been tasked to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations and submit its report by Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
According to the party, the probe forms part of its commitment to strengthening internal democracy, transparency, and ethical political conduct.
Beyond investigating the claims, the committee is also expected to recommend appropriate sanctions where necessary and propose long-term reforms aimed at eliminating inducement and vote buying in the party’s internal electoral processes.
The NDC assured its members, stakeholders, and the general public that it remains dedicated to upholding the highest standards of integrity in its internal elections.
Party supporters have been urged to remain calm and allow the committee to carry out its mandate without interference.
The statement was signed by the party’s General Secretary, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.
