NDC still brought Mahama even when he lost by over one million votes – Annoh-Dompreh to NPP delegates
Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh has reminded New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates of the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) consistency in backing its leadership choices, citing the example of former President John Dramani Mahama despite his heavy electoral defeat in the past.
Speaking on Monday, January 19, during Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign engagement in the Ashanti Region, the Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP said the NDC’s decision to maintain confidence in its candidate demonstrated discipline and unity—qualities the NPP must also uphold.
Mr Annoh-Dompreh noted that the NDC stood firmly behind Mr Mahama even after he lost a general election by a margin of more than one million votes, eventually leading to the party’s political comeback.
“The NDC still brought Mahama even when he lost by over one million votes,” he said, arguing that political resilience and loyalty to a proven candidate often yield long-term rewards.
He urged NPP delegates to draw lessons from the opposition’s approach by standing solidly behind Dr Bawumia, the party’s 2024 presidential candidate and former Vice President, as he seeks re-election to lead the party into the 2028 general elections. According to him, consistency and unity remain critical to the NPP’s electoral success.
