The campaign team of Dr. Yaw Osei Yaw Adutwum has downplayed recent public endorsements for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by a section of New Patriotic Party (NPP) members, insisting that such declarations will not influence the outcome of the party’s January 31, 2026, flagbearer election.

Speaking in an interview with Class 91.3 FM news, spokesperson for Dr. Adutwum, Yaw Opoku Mensah, described the endorsements as “rehearsed, staged and managed” events that do not reflect the true will of the party’s grassroots.

According to him, individuals behind the declarations contributed to the party’s poor showing in the 2024 general elections and therefore lack the credibility to determine the NPP’s future direction.

“No amount of declaration by a section or cross-section of party people will overturn the verdict that delegates have already determined,” he said, stressing that the real test of support will be seen on January 31.

Mr. Mensah said the Adutwum campaign remains focused on direct engagement with delegates across the country, rather than relying on high-profile endorsements.

He explained that campaign teams have been deployed nationwide to sell Dr. Adutwum’s vision of job creation, livable wages and dignified employment for the youth.

He also maintained that the campaign is committed to a clean contest, adding that protecting the image of the party and empowering grassroots members are central to their strategy.

“The real declaration that matters is that of the grassroots, not press conferences,” he added.

His comments follow a press conference held on Thursday, January 8, where 118 fromer NPP parliamentary candidates from the 2024 general election publicly declared their support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.

The group, led by former Sekondi MP Andrew Egyapa Mercer, described Dr. Bawumia as the most prepared and winnable candidate, citing his experience, competence, vision and leadership qualities.

The NPP is expected to elect its flagbearer on January 31, 2026, as campaigns intensify ahead of the crucial internal contest.
