Omane Boamah accuses NPP of over-reliance on rigging machinery
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of depending excessively on alleged rigging mechanisms during the December 7, 2024, general elections.
In a Facebook post dated Tuesday, January 14, 2025, Dr. Omane Boamah claimed the NPP focused more on manipulating electoral processes rather than engaging with the electorate to secure their mandate.
He stated, “Instead of working to win the hearts of the electorate, the NPP was overly relying on the party’s rigging machinery. We succeeded in neutralizing the Electoral Commission to an extent, not completely. We also disrupted some of the NPP's D-Day rigging plans.”
Dr. Omane Boamah further referenced remarks by Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP’s General Secretary, who reportedly expressed surprise at the election results during a press conference. Kodua Frimpong is quoted as saying, “We gave out all the necessary support needed by our parliamentary candidates. The results shocked me.”
The NDC's Director of Elections hinted at strategies employed by the party to counter the NPP’s alleged attempts to manipulate the polls, though he refrained from providing specific details in his post.
The December 2024 elections saw a significant shift in Ghana’s political landscape, with the NDC reclaiming power under President John Dramani Mahama.
The NPP has yet to officially respond to Dr. Omane Boamah’s allegations.
