Speaker Bagbin swears in first-ever Parliamentary Committee on Security and Intelligence

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has sworn in the maiden Committee on Security and Intelligence, marking a historic milestone in parliamentary oversight on national security matters.

The committee, established under Order 258 (4) of the new Standing Orders of Parliament, which came into effect in January 2024, is tasked with overseeing security and intelligence affairs, ensuring accountability, and strengthening national security governance.

During the swearing-in ceremony, Speaker Bagbin congratulated the committee members and urged them to approach their work with diligence, caution, and a strong sense of responsibility, given the critical and sensitive nature of security matters in Ghana.

Committee Members

The Security and Intelligence Committee is chaired by Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, with  Oscar Ofori Larbi serving as Vice Chairman.

The establishment of this committee is expected to enhance parliamentary oversight of Ghana’s security and intelligence operations, promoting transparency and strengthening national security governance.
